Swim Programs
The newly renovated Mary H. Soderberg Aquatic Center features indoor pools, diving, an accessible, zero-entry pool, water slides, a playground, and a hot tub. We are open to the public too and offer programs such as Youth and Masters Swim Teams and Scuba, Lifeguard, and CPR/AED Certification courses! Public access requires a day pass purchased at the front desk. Explore our locally recommended aquatics program to learn more about:
- Swimming lessons for all ages and skill levels, with discounts for Skaneateles Community Center members, from certified local instructors
- Open swim opportunities in our leisure pool, water playground, and 25-yard indoor competition pool
- Swimming birthday parties and group events
- Low-impact cardio aquatics group fitness classes, including Shallow Aqua Fitness and Deep Aqua Fitness
*All swimmers must pass a swim test to enjoy the waterslide, please see a lifeguard to schedule.

Parent and Child Swim Lessons: (11:15AM - 11:45Am ONLY)
This Parent & Child Swim class (ages 2 and under) is designed as a baby or toddler’s first introduction to swim lessons and gives caregivers the opportunity to bond with their child in the pool and help them adapt to the water. At this age, babies and toddlers are beginning to develop control over their bodies, and swim lessons begin to create confidence for young children in the water, while guiding caregivers in water safety practices.
In this class, you will:
- Bond with your baby or toddler
- Help your baby/toddler adjust to the water
- Develop confidence when handling your child in the water
- Learn how to safely submerge your child under the water
- Help your child begin safe and proper breath control
- Introduce your child to rollover and back float
- Help your child begin to turn and reach for the pool’s edge
Level 1: water comfort & safety
Objective: Develop Comfort in the water and basic water safety awarenessClass Focus:
- Games to reduce fear
- Introduction to pool rules
- Learning to listen to instructor
Skills to Master to Advance:
- Enter and exit water safely (steps or ladder)
- Submerge face in water for 3–5 seconds
- Blow bubbles through nose and mouth
- Float on front and back with support
- Kick on front and back with support
- Supported front and back glide
Level 2: FUNDAMENTAL WATer SKILLS
Objective: BUILD INDEPENDECE AND BUILD BASIC PROPULSIONClass Focus:
- Emphasize floating as safety skill
- Practice breath control
- Encourage short swims without help
Skills to Master to Advance:
- Front and back float without support (5–10 seconds)
- Front and back glide without support (2 body lengths)
- Roll from front to back
- Jump into water independently and return to wall
- Combined arm and leg action on front (5 ft)
- Exit pool without ladder
Level 3: STROKE INTRODUCTION
Objective: INTRODUCE THE BASICS OF FREESTYLE & BACKSTROKEClass Focus:
- Improve coordination of kicks and arm movement
- Focus on body position and comfort in deeper water
Skills to Master to Advance:
- Streamline glide off the wall
- Front crawl (freestyle) with side breathing (10–15 yards)
- Backstroke (10–15 yards)
- Jump in deep water and tread for 30 seconds
- Retrieve object from chest-deep water
- Introduction to rotary breathing

Private Swim Lessons
Build confidence in the water with one-on-one private swimming lessons. Each lesson is led by certified aquatics instructors who are skilled in teaching swim strokes, breathing techniques, and general water safety. Students can range from beginners all the way to advanced swimmers looking to compete.
Classes are 30 minutes long (private lesson, 1:1:). We accept all ages and swimming ability levels. We use the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program and all instructors are certified Water Safety Instructors.
Members:
- 30-minute session / $40
- Package of 8 lessons / $300
Non-members:
- 30-minute session / $50
- Package of 8 lessons / $400
Swim School
Year Round Swim Lessons For all Ages and Abilities
Our swim lesson program helps each student develop water confidence and safety while learning the foundations of proper swim technique. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned swimmer, we have a swim program tailored to help you along your swim journey.
Swimming lessons are held in 30 minute sessions once/week. Sessions will run continually with a monthly fee of $100 for members and $150 for non members. (4 lessons per month/once per week.)

Our preschool class is designed for children to become comfortable and confident in the water. Children will learn how to use controlled movements and breath control as they coordinate their swim strokes. Children will be placed in a class level based on their ability, and will progress through these skills:
- Hold breath underwater
- Roll over independently and float on back
- Float on back while moving
- Get to the pool’s edge and climb out
- Learn controlled movements while swimming
- Learn how to breathe while performing swimming skills
- Be introduced to freestyle and backstroke
- Perform front floats and kicks with control
- Master breath control with nose and mouth

Our school-aged swim class is designed to equip children with the skills they need to be considered independent swimmers.

- Gain the skills needed to be considered an independent swimmer

- Be introduced to breaststroke with arm and leg coordination
- Perform independent surface dives

Lifeguard & CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications
Earn your lifeguarding certification from the American Red Cross. Our courses reflect the latest techniques based on science and best practices to ensure that you are properly trained and prepared for emergencies in and around the water.
All classes are held at the Skaneateles Community Center.

USMS Masters Adult Swim Team
Former competitive swimmer, current open water swimmer, or just love swimming laps and want some exercise? Join our Masters Adult Swim Team.
Available to members, the team practices twice a week, for one hour. Practices usually run about 2K-3K yards in total, and focus on stroke refinement, speed, and endurance. Yardage can be adjusted to accommodate different levels of fitness, and we welcome you to join us.
